The Best Ugly Trainers This Season
Daddy knows best.
By Erin Eagle
First, they were Crocs, then Birkenstocks, but now the most coveted ugly shoe trend is the dad sneaker. The all-purpose shoe you’ve seen dads pull off daily has been selling like crazy thanks to celebrities and influencers.
Trainers are so versatile that you can style them with just about anything, from skirts and jeans to dresses. Whether you love it or hate it — this trend is here to stay.
When you go shopping, here are a few of our favorite ugly trainers this season you should look for:
Clunky and Chunky
Buffalo London has brought back the iconic Spice Girls’ sneakers, giving us major 90’s vibes. They take the sneaker trend to a whole new level. In collaboration with Opening Ceremony, they make trainers chunkier than ever.
As seen on celebrities like Bella Hadid and Luka Sabbat, the consistently sold-out Triple S Balenciaga sneakers are what started the trend. The trainers might weight nearly four pounds per shoe, but bigger is better, right? If you’re hoping to make an actual statement and can splurge a bit, these sneakers are for you.
Louis Vuitton’s spin on the dad sneaker is modern, sleek, and as you may have guessed, expensive. Although they are priced at nearly $1,100, this shoe will catch attention because of its unique design. For those who need a shoe with arch-support, the Archlights definitely has it.
Literal Dad Shoe
You can’t get much more classic than New Balance, a popular choice for dads during the 90’s. The brand has been carrying this sneaker silhouette for years, but now with the trend in full effect, it’s gaining major attention. This one, the 624, is the perfect neutral shoe to wear daily.
Although Gucci carries many versions of the ugly trainer, this one has a unique feature that adds to Gucci’s kitchy, yet luxury aesthetic: removable crystals. These sneakers are truly the combination of casual and chic, making them perfect to pair with any outfit.
Prada debuted their Cloudbust sneakers on the runway last spring, and now they can be found just about everywhere. The bright, fun colors make the shoes stand out, but their sporty design keeps them practical for everyday wear. (Not to mention, they add to Miuccia’s spy concept.) If neon colors are not your favorite, you can try their more classic colorways, like black and white.
